Black and White Pencil Drawings
Although color is nice, there is something about black and white pencil drawings. There is nothing more special to an artist then to capture the subtle differences between the tones and shades correctly. We especially like doing black and white pencil drawings of people and faces because we find the human figure fascinating. There is so much detail in the face, the hands, the mouth. Trying to capture a person's mood can be a challenge for drawings done in pencil as well. We love to draw pictures that show people in an emotional state, be it happiness, sadness, or anger. That is why we like pencil drawings where the subject does not know they have been captured. They are more spontaneous.

Hand drawn pencil portraits have the advantage of being less expensive than oil portraits and will still last for years. A hand drawn pencil portrait can be done without the wait for drying time that is necessary for an oil portrait. Many people prefer the " traditional" look of a pencil portrait. When you receive your pencil portrait, please frame it under glass. This will preserve your pencil portrait for years to come. You will love your hand drawn portrait. Please try to send only good quality photos. Just as with an oil portrait the quality of the pencil portrait depends on the quality of the photo. Hand drawn pencil portraits make great gifts.

We draw all of the pencil drawings we create with a Derwent 2B Sketching Pencil. All drawings are hand drawn originals and are destined to become treasured heirlooms for their owner. These one-of-a-kind masterpieces will never be owned by anyone else. We can work with your photograph or idea to do an original portrait or drawing for you or your loved one. Which Photo do you Choose?
When choosing a photograph for your pencil drawing, the larger the original photo the more detail we can extract from it. If possible, do not send the toothy stuffy cheesy stiff-grinned school picture pose. Take the opportunity to use the once in a lifetime captured pose of them being them. A pouting mouth; a twinkling or magical look in their eyes; a moment in time expression; or other different or angled pose. A photo taken in natural light will have better results than one taken where the subject's face is washed out by artificial flash. But even a photo taken with a strong flash can be used to draw a good pencil portrait. If possible, send a photo image where one side of the face is distinctly darker than the other; this will give the pencil portrait depth and form.

How to order and pricing
Ordering your portrait couldn’t be easier! Simply follow these easy steps and you’re on your way to receiving a beautiful hand-drawn portrait.
Send us your Photo. Submit your digital or scanned image to us. Don’t have a scanner or digital camera? No problem. Simply send any size photo via postal mail. You can send us your picture by E-mail or by Mail. When we have received your picture and deposit payment of 50%, we will begin drawing your portrait.
Pay for the finished Portrait. Once your portrait is finished we will contact you either by email or telephone. You may send us a money order, cashier's check, pay by credit card or pay via PayPal, for the finished portrait.
Receive the Portrait by Mail. Once we have received your payment, the finished portrait will be shipped to the shipping address you supplied. The default shipping method is priority mail. You will receive the portrait in a quick 2 - 3 days, unless you specified a faster delivery method during the final payment process. Please note: Because we travel a lot we may also have the opportunity to save you shipping fees and deliver your portrait to you in person. We will let you know ahead of time if this is the case and we would happen to be traveling to... or near your area.

Each portrait is unique and prices may need to be adjusted according to special needs or additional work required. However, the price will always be quoted upfront and will not change without discussion and approval.
The prices above are for one original detailed hand-drawn portrait with plain background created by Spooner Creations with black or sepia pencils on high quality white poster board.
Half of the fee is due at the time the portrait is commissioned; the balance is due upon completion of the portrait.
